Xabi Alonso moves one step closer to Real Madrid job after Bayer Leverkusen exit is confirmed

Xabi Alonso has confirmed he will be leaving his role as Bayer Leverkusen head coach at the end of the season as speculation over replacing Carlo Ancelotti at Real Madrid heats up.
The Spaniard’s contract with the Bundesliga outfit still had two years left to run, but the club have agreed to an early termination that will see Alonso depart after a spell that lasted more than two and half years.
“This club, who showed exceptional trust in me, very much deserved to win the German league title for the first time. My thanks and admiration go to everybody who helped to make this triumph happen including the DFB Pokal win in Berlin.
