Rochdale and Manchester United have both paid heartfelt tribute to former midfielder Joe Thompson, who has died aged 36 after battling cancer.
Rochdale announced on Friday that Thompson had on Thursday passed away peacefully at home surrounded by his family after fighting the illness for the third time.
He had initially been diagnosed with Hodgkin lymphoma while at Tranmere in 2013 before being given the all-clear the following year after chemotherapy.
