Jochen Mass dead: F1 race winner dies aged 78 as family release emotional statement

Former Formula One star Jochen Mass has died after suffering complications from a stroke he suffered earlier this year. The German, who was 78, won the 1975 Spanish Grand Prix and landed seven further podiums during a nine-year F1 career.
Back in February, it was revealed that Mass had been rushed to hospital having suffered what was described at the time as a ‘medical emergency’. In an emotional statement, his family have now confirmed that the former McLaren driver has died. His death was caused by complications following the stroke he suffered three months ago.
