F1 announces major calendar news as divisive Grand Prix set for 16-year stay

The Miami Grand Prix will be staying on the F1 calendar until 2041 after the divisive event was handed a bumper 10-year contract extension ahead of FP1 on Friday. Until 2022, the only American representation on the F1 schedule was the beloved Circuit of the Americas, but this changed for the first season of the ground-effect regulations as open-wheel racing arrived in Miami for a street circuit around the Hard Rock Stadium, home of the Miami Dolphins NFL franchise.

After bumper crowds at the inaugural running of the Grand Prix, interest in the event dipped somewhat, and the debate about the circuit’s future was ignited after Stefano Domenicali committed to the Las Vegas Grand Prix, which debuted to rave reviews in 2023. However, America’s F1 middle child is here to stay, following a 10-year contract extension.
