Boxing icon MC Mary Kom confirms split from husband but categorically denies rumours of affair

Six-time world champion MC Mary Kom responded to a report on Hindustan Times which speculated the possibility of a divorce due to her living separately from husband Onkholer Kom.

Indian boxing legend MC Mary Kom broke her silence on reports of her divorce, confirming on Wednesday that she has indeed separated from husband Onkholer Kom while refuting rumours of an affair. The 42-year-old pugilist responded to a report carried by Hindustan Times on 7 April that speculated the two were “headed for divorce” after living separately in recent years.

The HT report, which sparked widespread discussion on social media, also quoted an anonymous boxer who claimed that Mary Kom was having an affair “with another boxer’s husband”.

The six-time world champion, who won bronze in the 2012 London Olympics, responded to the reports with a two-page post on X under the letter-head of Rajat Mathur, Advocate Supreme Court, Mary Kom. The legal response was “issued in response to the Article published in the Hindustan Times EFL, on April 7, 2025 and subsequently engaging various media outlets in unwarranted speculation and unfounded claims regarding the personal life of Ms. M.C. Mary Kom.”
