Former Wimbledon finalist Andy Roddick believes Sir Andy Murray’s role as Novak Djokovic’s coach was doomed from the beginning. Before the Australian Open, the two-time Wimbledon winner was brought into Djokovic’s team in a move that surprised the tennis world.

Initially, Djokovic, 37, was complimentary towards the Brit’s involvement, particularly when he got all the way to the quarter-final in Melbourne, before retiring against Alexander Zverev with an injury. After the Grand Slam, they decided to extend their work together until Wimbledon. However, after a run of three consecutive defeats in the build-up to the Miami Open – where he was then defeated in the final by Jakub Mensik – was followed by early exits in Monte Carlo and Madrid, the writing was on the wall for their work together.
